NZ Alternative Flag Designs

I succumbed to the temptation to having a crack at designing a new flag - even tho' I did not see the need to change the old one. Below are 2 of the most popular I designed and one I liked the best by Sophie Wilson - out of thousands submitted.

Flag Designs

My Choices:

I have attempted to create an easily recognisable and unique design to identify the flag as being from New Zealand when it is seen from a distance. The present and familiar red, white and blue colours were used to link in with our historical connections - I also thought red against white would attract attention and the Kiwi silhouette would anchor the design. The Kiwi is uniquely from NZ, whereas ferns, waves and landforms etc are seen elsewhere too. One of it's special characteristics is the huge egg it lays that is the largest for its body size of any bird in the World. In this case it incorporates a koru pattern, symbolizing the Maori culture which we should nurture and protect - it is also unique and without it we would not be who we are.

I favour (1), whereas (2) is preferred by others and I do admit the stars add to it - especially when it hangs loose. What do you think? You can email me at dave.wolland@gmail.com or leave a comment here. There are other designs too; if you like one of them better, then tell me. Any improvements are welcome.
